Welles Remy Crowther made an honorary member of the Fire Department of the City of New York.

On December 15, 2006, Welles Remy Crowther was made an honorary member of the FDNY, posthumously, the first time in the history of the department, through a Special Commendation by the NYC Fire Commissioner. Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano presented the Crowther family with a framed certificate of appointment which included a department badge and a red bandanna.
